Why Old fashioned ?

The Old Fashioned cocktail traces back to 19th-century America, evolving from the "Whiskey Cocktail" at the Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Its simple blend of whiskey, sugar, water, and bitters in a short tumbler has made it a timeless classic in cocktail culture worldwide.

Ice: Cubed /or/ Ice chunk

Garnish: orange zest /or/ Marchino cherry

There is many twist to the orginal Old Fashioned:

- Rum Old fashioned: Preferbly use a spicy /or/ Dark rum. Demarra sugar could                                       be interesting.
-Smoky Old Fashioned: Use Peated whisky (preferbly Islay whisky), might be a                                           good idea to blend Bourbon and Peated whisky (5/1 ratio)
-Cherry Old Fashioned: Instead of sugar /or/ simple syrup, use maraschino                                                   cherry juice. Cherry has a garnish.

How could you improve it ?

What's good with the Old Fashioned it's that as good as it is, as easy it to modify and improve.

Indeed there is many way to affine and add some taste to your classic drink, as for example add some smoke woody taste to your drink with a cocktail smoker. Or even change the simple syrup by a cinmamon syrup (look at Syrup recipe) and make your old fashioned smoother and spicier.
